Create structured sessions that support concentration without overloading your day.
The Focus Session Blueprint
- Set intention: define one outcome, for example, "draft project outline".
- Remove distractions: silence non-essential notifications for the session.
- Choose a timer: pick 25, 45, or 90 minutes based on cognitive demand.
- Take micro-break: 2-5 minutes to reset posture and eyes.
Session Lengths & Flow
- 25-minute sprint: ideal for starting and reducing resistance. Script: "I only need one clear paragraph."
- 45-minute builder: ideal for medium complexity. Script: "I complete one section before checking messages."
- 90-minute deep dive: ideal for strategy and design. Script: "I follow one plan with zero app switching."
Focus completion rate = completed sessions / planned sessions x 100%
Example: 6 completed / 8 planned x 100% = 75% completion rate.
Focus Enhancers
- Sound: instrumental track or low ambient noise.
- Lighting: front-facing or side light to reduce eye strain.
- Posture: both feet supported, screen at eye level.
